Stiff laws on abuse: Muchinguri

Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education,Science andTechnology Development Oppah
Muchinguri recently denounced the abuse of females following the murder of a
Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) by culprits who allegedly raped her
.
Addressing
college and university students at Masvingo Polytechnic College, Minister
Muchinguri called the government to impose very heavy penalty on perpetrators
by amending rape laws and increase the number of years they should stay in
custody
.
Its high time government impose a heavy penalty ,even thirty year jail sentence to
perpetrators of abuse, to curb rising cases
of rape;she acknowledged
.
Muchinguri
also denounced the discrimination of students especially those doing an Honours
Degree in Bachelor of Education (BED) who gets side-lined when they look for
attachment in preferences to those from Teachers’ colleges during their work related learning period
Concerning
grants and cadetship, the minister said the current economic setup makes it
difficult for the government to address the issue. She however, encouraged
students to emulate and utilize the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable
Socio-economic Transformation (ZimAsset) to improve their livelihoods.
The
event was held under a theme, “ Fostering the
implementation of Zimasset in tertiary
institutions.
